The Alignment generation rule is used to reformat the strings provided by a source field using a left or right alignment with a constant size and a complement character.

If the configured size of the alignment is less than the actual size of the source string then the source string will be reduced to the alignment size. For example, if you have configured the Alignment rule with a size of 4 chars and 'X' as the complement character, the behaviour of the alignment rule will be :

Direction Source Field Value Aligned Value
left ABCDEF ABCD
left AB ABXX
left XXXX
right ABCDEF CDEF
right AB XXAB
