The UUID generation rule is an implementation of the Universal Unique Identifier as described on Wikipedia (en). It allows to generates large amount of unique identifiers to associate to new customers, articles and any alike entity you have to produce for a target system's injection.

Implementation of the generator relies on BOOST library UUID and doesn't require a central repository for ensuring uniqueness.

Notice that generation of UUID relies on the random generation seed defined in the file using that rule for generating data. As such, if you use the same seed for generating two sequences of records including an UUID then the UUID will be identical in the two files ! (as this is an expected behaviour).

Sample 3 first generated values with a seed 1234 :

2f6b0731-d3e2-467f-a685-429f35dc5dd1
ccec0e70-745d-439c-9842-0dc9f9d777c5
8f7eacc7-b1da-44dc-97a1-c845e9249026

Now same with a seed of 1235 :
